Common Tents: Single Fly, Double Fly and EPIP
We make three common canvas tents. The single fly tent is the simplest, with one fly of two layers. The double fly officer's tent adds a waterproof outer fly for more protection. The EPIP tent is a larger double fly tent with doors on all four sides. Full specifications are below.
Single Fly Tent

A single fly tent is made of two layers of cloth: waterproof cotton on the outside and buff or blue sheeting cloth inside. It comes in five square sizes, from 8 x 8 ft to 16 x 16 ft.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a single fly and a double fly tent?
A single fly tent has one fly made of two layers of cloth: waterproof cotton outside and sheeting cloth inside. A double fly tent adds a second, outer fly of waterproof cotton over an inner fly of 8 oz cotton canvas, so there is an extra layer between the people inside and the sun and rain.
What is an EPIP tent?
EPIP stands for English Pattern Indian Police. It is a double fly tent with a short ridge pole (usually 6 ft), two standing poles, a door on each of its four sides that can be raised as a canopy, and windows, ventilators, pockets and hangers. Our EPIP tents come in 24 x 16, 20 x 16 and 16 x 16 ft, with a centre height of 10.5 ft.
What sizes do single fly tents come in?
Standard sizes are 16 x 16, 14 x 14, 12 x 12, 10 x 10 and 8 x 8 ft. If you need something different, mention it in your enquiry: we welcome custom designs.
Can the EPIP tent be made with three layers?
Yes. It is usually made with two layers of cloth in both flies, and three layers can be used for special purposes. Mention this when you ask for a price.
Can I ask for a size or design that is not listed?
We welcome custom designs and keep your specifications confidential. Describe it in your enquiry, or email the drawing or tender specification to goyalka@gmail.com.
